In literal terms, ‘Barfi’ is the name of a traditional and authenticate sweet of India. Anurag Basu, however saw more to this word than just a sweet. The soon-to-be released feature film Barfi will attempt to incorporate all the flavors of Barfi. The movie Barfi, directed by Anurag Basu is said to be a silent yet joyous movie. Starring Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Ileana D’ Cruz, this movie aims at redefining the way Bollywood sees joy. This film highlights the various emotions of differently-able people targets not at only at their emotional pain but tries to bring to light the happy moments and the joy these people experience. On the lines of Black, Guzaarish and Paa, Barfi too looks at creating an emotional spur among people to react positively to the presence of disabled people around.

Ranbir Kapoor is the main protagonist of the movie along with Priyanka Chopra. Ranbir plays the role of Murphy, a deaf and dumb person who refers himself as ‘Barfi’.

On the other hand, Priyanka Chopra plays ‘Jhilmil’, an autistic girl. The newcomer Ileana plays the role of a narrator. The script of this movie is written by the director himself. Produced by Ronnie Srewvala, this movie is sure to touch the sensibilities of the audience. The soothing music provided by Pritam is sure an USP of Barfi.

Initially the movie was planned to be titled as Khamoshi or Silence, but later the lead character’s name Murphy became the inspiration for the movie’s title ( Ranbir pronounces his name as ‘Barfi’ due to his disability of speech). Sources reveal that the character of Ranbir Kapoor could be an inspiration from the comedy characters like Charlie Chaplin or Mr. Bean. The two ladies in the film too have interesting contributions to the film. The director, Anurag Basu is quite excited about this film and reveals that this movie is not completely silent.

As there were casual gossips about this film, the team made it official by releasing the first trailer of the movie officially in Mumbai, this Monday. The trailer is about 27 minutes, in which the viewers can get a glimpse of the humor and simplicity associated with the film. The trailer also gives a glimpse of all the three characters, which play entirely unique roles in the film.

Just after official trailer release, the trailers were simultaneously released on You Tube too. Estimations show that the trailers have seen a great appreciation as there were more than 1, 66,000 likes recorded by the viewers.  The trailer seems to be an instant hit. The movie is set for release on 14th September, 2012 and the expectations are high!
